01Our verdict
If you searched for Upfront car refinance reviews, the most useful fact is the current one: as of our check on September 29, 2026, Upfront's website at saveupfront.co no longer offers refinancing. The address now redirects to an unrelated Vietnamese-language online gambling site. Archived copies of the real Upfront site run from 2021 through October 2023, and its Better Business Bureau profile lists a New York business that opened on March 23, 2021. We found no current Upfront application anywhere, so we treat the service as no longer operating.

What Upfront sold was a twist on a normal refinance. Instead of taking a lower monthly payment, you could take the projected savings as cash, and the company charged a $399 service fee out of those savings if you went ahead. That is a real and legal product idea, but cash at a refinance closing is not free money, and today there is no Upfront to compare anyway. The practical move is to price your loan with lenders that are quoting now.

What it does well

  • Its archived site said checking an offer did not affect your credit score
  • It disclosed its $399 fee plainly and said you paid nothing if you did not refinance
  • Its BBB profile showed no complaints filed over the previous three years

Where it gives ground

  • As of September 2026 there is no working Upfront site or application
  • saveupfront.co now redirects to an unrelated gambling site, so do not enter personal details there
  • Cash back at a refinance is funded by borrowing, which can cost more than a lower payment
02Is Upfront still operating?

Not as a refinance service we can find. On September 29, 2026, a request to saveupfront.co, the address Upfront used for its application, redirected to a Vietnamese-language online gambling site with no connection to auto lending. The Wayback Machine holds copies of the genuine Upfront site from May 2021 through October 2023, and nothing we could locate shows the service continuing after that.

Upfront's Better Business Bureau profile is still up. It lists a business in New York, New York that started on March 23, 2021, carries an A+ rating without BBB accreditation, and shows no complaints over the previous three years and no customer reviews. A BBB listing that still exists is not evidence that a company is still taking applications, so we rely on the website itself, which no longer works.

03How Upfront said its cash-back refinance worked

According to its archived site, Upfront was a broker. You entered details about your car, your loan, and yourself, it searched what it called its top lenders, and you chose between a lower monthly payment or taking the savings as cash back. The site advertised an average cash-back offer of $2,193 and average monthly savings of $82, said checking an offer did not affect your credit, and said selecting an offer for processing triggered a hard inquiry.

Its pricing was a flat $399 service fee, taken out of your savings only if you refinanced. The footer of the archived site named Elsker Inc., NMLS ID 2167120, as the company behind the service. Those are the company's own marketing claims from 2022 and 2023; we could not verify its customer results independently.

04What to know about cash-back refinancing in general

Money paid to you when a car loan is refinanced does not come from nowhere. It comes from the new loan, which means you repay it with interest over the new term. A lower rate can make that trade reasonable, and sometimes the numbers genuinely work, but a cash payout and a lower payment are two different uses of the same savings, and taking the cash usually means a larger balance.

Before accepting any cash-out refinance offer, compare three numbers: the new loan balance, the total you will pay over the term, and what the same lender would charge for a plain rate-and-term refinance with no cash. If the cash costs more in interest than it is worth to you, take the lower payment instead.

05If you refinanced through Upfront

Upfront was a broker, so it was never your lender. Your loan sits with whichever lender funded it, and a broker going quiet does not change your rate, your term, or your payoff. Check your monthly statement, your online account, or your title paperwork for the lender's name, and make your payments there.

Be careful with anything that reaches you in Upfront's name now. The old web address points somewhere unrelated, so do not enter loan or identity details on it, and confirm any request about your loan directly with the lender named on your own documents.

06How to refinance your car now

The steps are the same with or without Upfront. Pull your current payoff amount and rate, then compare quotes from lenders that are actively lending. Checking sample rates involves no credit check, and the spread between the best and worst offer for the same borrower is often wide enough to matter every month for years.

If you want a lower payment, compare rate-and-term offers. If you want cash, compare the total cost of the cash-out version against the plain version before you sign.

07Who it fits

Upfront makes sense if

  • People who saw an Upfront ad or mailer and want to know whether it is still real
  • Borrowers who refinanced through Upfront and need to identify their current lender
  • Anyone comparing cash-back refinance offers against a plain lower rate

Look elsewhere if

  • Anyone hoping to apply with Upfront today, which is no longer possible
  • Borrowers who would rather lower their payment than take cash at closing
  • Shoppers who want several live lender offers side by side
08Questions people ask

Frequently asked questions

Does Upfront refinance car loans?

Not anymore, as far as we can verify. Upfront was an auto refinance broker that launched in 2021, but as of September 29, 2026 its website, saveupfront.co, redirects to an unrelated gambling site and there is no working application. Archived copies of the real site end in October 2023.

Is Upfront car refinance legit?

It appears to have been a real company. Its BBB profile lists a New York business started in March 2021 with no complaints over the previous three years, and its archived site named Elsker Inc., NMLS ID 2167120, as the operator. The problem today is not legitimacy but availability: the service no longer runs, and its old web address now leads to an unrelated site.

What do Upfront car refinance reviews say?

There is very little independent review history. Upfront's BBB profile shows no customer reviews and no complaints over the previous three years. The star ratings and customer stories on its archived site were its own marketing, which we could not verify, so they are a weak guide to anything, and none of it helps you refinance today.

How did Upfront make money?

According to its archived FAQ, Upfront charged a $399 service fee, taken out of your savings, only if you chose to refinance. If it could not find you savings or you decided not to go ahead, it said you paid nothing.

Is a cash-back car refinance a good idea?

Sometimes, but compare it carefully. Cash paid at a refinance closing comes from the new loan, so you repay it with interest. Compare the new balance and the total cost over the term against a plain rate-and-term refinance before deciding the cash is worth it.

I refinanced through Upfront. Who holds my loan now?

Upfront was a broker, not a lender, so your loan is with whichever lender funded it. Your statement, online account, or title paperwork names that lender, and your rate, term, and payoff are unchanged by what happened to Upfront.
